May - Share The Food Project ( Charity )

With the events industry on the back burner for a while we were able to turn our attention to some local initiatives set up to help those less fortunate during the pandemic.

We joined the team over at the Share the Food Project to lend a hand and Vehicles to aid with their efforts.

We put the word out to all the great operators we work with and had a huge response from people wanting to get on board for such a great cause.

Thank you for everyone that answered the call.

To date, the Share the Food project has distributed around $500,000 worth of food and essential items. The project is a combination of individual contactless deliveries of food parcels to homes and emergency accommodation as well as supplying over 30 other local community organisations with food parcels and bulk goods to support shared client groups. Supplies include fresh fruit and vegetables, non-perishable food items, freshly prepared meals, toiletries, nappies, pet food and other essentials.

Gippsland Horse and Stock Safe - Bushfire Assistance

Another call to arms earlier in the year saw us head to Gippsland to help the GHSS Bushfire Assistance team.
With the devastation of the fires causing havoc across the area they jumped to action to start to get feed into effected areas where livestock were in desperate need.
With the calls coming in thick and fast their small set up needed to upscale quickly. We headed down with a van full of donated office equipment and linked them up with new Whiteboards, 2 way radios, fridge and printers to help them with the monumental task they were facing.

A little more about GHSS

“Who are we ?

We are a grassroots organization of local people helping local people. We are your neighbours, relatives, farmers, local business owners and friends giving our community a helping hand at times of need during bushfire emergencies.

We have a wide spread network throughout Gippsland from the mountains to the sea of local horse people, farmers, hay runners, truck owners and drivers and local business’s willing to donate their time, products and fodder to help out their community. We deliver our donations directly to the farm gates and into the hands of those who need it most.”

A bit of a handbrake

With a global pandemic comes some inevitable changes.

The arts and entertainment sector has been one of the first to be hit and will be one of the most heavily affected.

We will be doing everything we can to look after our extended family and clients to make sure we all come out of this on the other side safe and in a position to pick up where we left off.

This is an unprecedented time for us all so while we hibernate remember the great events you have been to and look for ways to support the artists and venues as soon as it safe to do so.
See you on the other side!

Meanwhile here is an interesting ritual from the theatrical sector which we feel is fitting at these times.

ghost light is an electric light that is left energized on the stage of a theater when the theater is unoccupied and would otherwise be completely dark. It typically consists of an exposed incandescent bulbCFL lamp, or LED lamp mounted in a wire cage on a portable light stand.[1] It is usually placed near center stage.

The superstitious have various justifications for the ghost light in relation to the supernatural. A popular theatrical superstition holds that every theater has a ghost, and some theaters have traditions to appease ghosts that reach far back into their history. For example, the Palace Theatre, London keeps two seats in their balcony permanently bolted open to provide seating for the theater ghosts

February Wrap up

Our biggest month ever!

Huge events across all our departments with Metricon coming on board as one of our major clients. We have the opportunity to provide AV for their supplier expo at the Melbourne Showgrounds.

The Hub was in full force with a number of great acts namely the boys from Kingswood getting ready for their Australian tour. Another handy opportunity was being able to offer a weekly rehearsal space for an act involved in a rather large wedding at the end of the month.

The month wrapped up with an exclusive hire of the Mitchelton Winery. This involved 5 different areas from the art galleries to the tower to a full stage with live band and DJ in their underground tunnel system.

This was an amazing month and we really appreciate everyone who helped us nail each and every event.

Its the silly season for touring so this month we have had some amazing names through The Hub to get them show ready

From the final touches on fly racks to repairs on equipment or just the last few days rehearsal to build show files. THE HUB is the perfect place to get those finishing touches sorted.

Aus Music Month @ The Espy

Australian Music Month was a hit for us here at The Espy, with so many fantastic local artists gracing The Gershwin Stage, we started with a special ABC Melbourne live broadcast of ‘The Friday Revue’ with Brian Nankervis & Richelle Hunt, featuring Alice Skye, Freya Josephine Hollick & Joe Camilleri, with special guests I Know Leopard who also played later that night for their headline tour show. We also welcomed Alex Lahey, Cry Club, Nancie Shipper, WAAX, Pinch Points, Girl Germs, The Basics, Shrimpwitch, British India & we ended on an absolute high with San Cisco selling out the room. We’re very tired but we love working with these fabulous Australian artists, and creating a fantastic image and sound for them off stage to all their biggest fans. Can’t wait for next year!

Channel 7 Front Bar - The Espy

Footy Footy Footy!

Channel 7 Front Bar happily claimed their biggest show yet at The Espy in September. Their Grand Final Edition of the famous AFL program had hosts Mick Molloy, Sam Pang & Andy Maher taking over two stages of the hotel, broadcasting live to Australian audiences. With the bulk of the show being filmed in The Gershwin Room, they also had live crosses to The Basement Stage where live band - Picket Palace, played to the masses. The three hosts also brought along 80+ crew, along with two of our own on site for the massive day ahead.
